Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to compare and contrast nursing care from the 19th century to the nursing care practiced today using Nightingale’s seminal work Notes on Nursing (1860) and current scholarly sources.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

  • CO 2: Apply lessons from nursing history to today’s professional nursing practice. (PO 4)
  • CO 4: Analyze the impact of nursing history on professional nursing roles today and in the future. (PO 7)

Due Date

Students must complete the Week 2 Lessons from Nightingale’s Notes on Nursing and submit it to the Dropbox by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. MT.

  3. Review the list of chapters in the book. Each chapter represents a different topic in nursing care.
  4. Select one topic as your focus for this assignment.
  5. Read the chapter in Notes on Nursing that correlates with your selected topic.
  6. Use the Chamberlain Library to find one scholarly peer-reviewed article on your selected topic related to current nursing practice.
  7. Complete the required template by using Nightingale’s Notes on Nursing and your scholarly article.
  8. Correctly cite and reference ideas and information that come from scholarly literature, including the permalink from the Chamberlain Library. Sources should be no more than five years old.
  9. Follow grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation rules consistent with formal, scholarly writing.
  10. Abide by Chamberlain University’s academic integrity policy.
  11. Submit to Canvas for grading as a Microsoft Word (.docx) file.
