Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to describe and compare a transformative event in nursing history from the past (1900-1950) with a similar event from more recent history (1950-Present). Often, history repeats itself, and this assignment allows you to analyze past and present responses, reflect on lessons learned, and consider how historical events from distant and recent history influence nursing’s present and future.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

  • CO 2: Apply lessons from nursing history to today’s professional nursing practice. (PO 4)
  • CO 3: Identify persons and events in nursing history impacting evidence-based practice from the 20th century and 21st century. (PO 8)
